Hickman, Kelly

Ms. Kelly Hickman, 8th Grade
A little bit about yourself--where are you from? What do you like to do?
I have lived in Rock Hill most of my life. Much of family lived in Washington DC so I have spent many summers there. I graduated from Winthrop University with a bachelors in education, middle level science and social studies; with a minor in psychology. I have an 8 year old son who is the center of my life. I love to crochet! I have been learning this summer and have gotten to a place where I really feel proud of my work.
How do you help students become leaders in their own learning?
I help my students become leaders in their own learning by reminding them that participation and attitude are essential. If you do nothing, you will get nothing in return.
What's one way you "sharpen the saw" and take care of yourself?
Music is a very big part of my life. I listen to music every single day and incorporate music into my classes. Not only is music a way for me to take care of myself but I can also connect with my students and maybe sharpen their saw too.
