Lemon, Leana - 6th Grade Science

Ms. Leana Lemon
A little bit about yourself--where are you from? What do you like to do?
I'm originally from a small town named Manning, South Carolina. In my spare time, I coach three and four-year-old's in various sports such as basketball, tee ball, and flag football.
How do you help students become leaders in their own learning?
To help students become leaders in their own learning, I focus on building their sense of ownership, confidence, and responsibility. I involve students in setting personal learning goals and encourage them to reflect regularly on their progress through journals or discussions. I provide choices in how they demonstrate their understanding and give them a voice in classroom decisions, which fosters a sense of agency. Teaching metacognitive strategies and promoting self-assessment help students think critically about their own learning and take initiative to improve.
Which of the 7 Habits do you connect with most, and why?
I connect deeply with the habit “Be Proactive” as it highlights the importance of taking responsibility for your actions, choices, and mindset. Rather than merely reacting to circumstances or placing blame on others, being proactive encourages me to concentrate on what I can influence and to take the initiative in creating positive changes. This approach is empowering, as it keeps me grounded and focused on solutions, even during difficult times. By embracing proactivity, I can plan ahead, respond thoughtfully instead of emotionally, and demonstrate accountability to those around me. This habit fosters confidence and resilience over time.
